CHAPTER READ: Revelation 3
SCRIPTURE SELECTED: Revelation 3:1-2
“To the angel[a] of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits[b] of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 2 Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God.
OBSERVATION: The Lord says: I know your deeds, you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. They were existing on their reputation and on the things they had once done. Somewhere in the past they quit “living” and they started to rely on what they were rather than in who they were “now”. They had a reputation of being “alive” but they are dead. The call is to “Wake up!” and strengthen what remains and is about to die!
APPLICATION: I tend to point to stuff that happened in the past to define who I am today. I did such and such for the Lord and so my reputation is built on those things. But when was the last time you did those deeds? When was the last time you shared “life” with others. We are only “alive” as long as we are letting God “live-through” us now!
PRAYER: Lord, today is a brand new opportunity to “live” for You and to complete that which You have started. May we not live by the reputation for what we were known for, but rather my we be known for what it is that we are doing today, by the power of your Spirit. Amen
