CHAPTER READ: Revelation 9
SCRIPTURE SELECTED: Revelation 9:20-21
20 The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk. 21 Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.
OBSERVATION: John seems to be amazed by the fact that through all the torment and travail that comes upon the earth and upon those who are suffering in their unfaithfulness that they do not repent and turn from the work of their hands. They just keep on calling out to idols that can’t hear, see or walk. They keep worshiping gods of heir own making and demons that are set upon their own destruction. They just kept on sinning and using and abusing one another!
APPLICATION: We live in these times when in the face of hardship and turmoil caused by our own chosen life-style that people refuse to give up their sin. They continue to turn to gods of their own making. Seeking 1st their own kingdom, rather than God’s kingdom and righteousness is the path they have chosen even as it leads them into more misery and darker times. This breaks the heart of God, who sees and hears us and who will come to us when we repent and turn to Him.
PRAYER: We have good news for a hurting and suffering world. Lord, You hear our prayers and You respond to our call. You are the living God who has redeemed us and set us free. May I not fall back on sharing this good news with those around me, for they are suffering! Amen.
