To the Weary and Burdened

BY: Pastor Bob Miller

TITLE: “To the Weary and Burdened”

CHAPTER READ: Matthew 11

SCRIPTURE SELECTED: Matthew 11: 28-30

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

OBSERVATION:

Jesus calls us to Himself. The call is to all who are weary and burdened with the cares of this world. He says that He will give us rest. But the rest is not so much from the laying aside of a “yoke” but rather from the exchanging of yokes. We are called to take up His yoke and learn from Him for He is gentle and humble in heart. His yoke is easy and His burden is light…because we have been called to carry the yoke alongside Him. The weight is upon His shoulders.

APPLICATION:

I can be my own worst “taskmaster” and “slave driver.” I beat myself up when I forget something important, or when I don’t perform to my own expectation. I make myself weary. Jesus is not like that! He invites us to join Him in accomplishing His mission…to take up his yoke and to from Him. Doing so will bring rest and relief. He won’t berate or put me down. His yoke is easy and His burden is light!

PRAYER:

Lord, in the midst of these days when pressures arise and we feel especially
burdened may I be reminded that Your call is not to follow a formula but your call is to come to You. I’m coming to You Lord Jesus for I know that You hold the answers on how to live and what to do during this time.
