The Truth will make you Free

CHAPTER READ: John 8

SCRIPTURE SELECTED: John 8:31-34

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” 34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
OBSERVATION: Jesus says if you hold to my teaching you are really my disciples. Jesus says “then” you will know the truth and the truth will set you free”. Knowing the truth is a result of doing the “truth” which results in being set free! Those who were listening to Jesus didn’t even know that they needed to be set free. It isn’t until we experience freedom or see someone that has been set free that we realize we have been slaves. They thought they were free…but all along they were a slave to sin.

APPLICATION: Freedom comes as a result of obeying the Words of Jesus. Freedom testifies to the fact that we have been set free…for no longer are we living in bondage and stuck in having to do that which we hat ourselves for doing. As we follow the Words of Jesus we then come to know the truth which is that: “life is fuller and more complete” doing the Words of Jesus than in going our own way. As I follow Jesus’ Words is becomes easier for me to want to do His Word.

PRAYER Lord, Thank You for setting me free. Thank You for showing me that life can be so much more rewarding doing Your will than in going my own way! Thank You for setting me free and delivering me out of the bondage of sin which leads to death. Amen

Reading my bible daily is a way that I can be reminded of Jesus' truths. Sometimes I may hear another person or read a book and get mixed up about truth, then I get back into the word and ask the Holy Spirit to make it clear to me. He never fails!
