Seasoned With Salt

BY: Pastor Bob Miller

CHAPTER READ: Colossians 4

SCRIPTURE SELECTED: Colossians 4:5-6
5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

OBSERVATION:
Paul closes his letter by giving practical instructions on how to live and act towards those outside the faith. He just asked that they pray for him to be faithful in proclaiming the mystery of Christ. Now he says that we need to be wise and make the most of every opportunity. He says to let our conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that we may know how to answer everyone.

APPLICATION:
In the conversations that I have with those outside the faith, I need to be mindful that this is an opportunity to share with them about what Christ wants to do for them. We must be ready to answer their questions whatever they may be, rather than trying to force our own agenda upon them. Our conversation is to be full of grace – and seasoned with salt. What they have to say is important to us and so we spend most of our time listening, and we simply sprinkle with salt…a word of truth at the appropriate time.

PRAYER:
Lord, I think that too often, I fail to make the most of my conversations with others because I am more interested in what I have to say than I am in listening. Nor do I spend the time to really want to know what is taking place in their life. May that change and help me today in my conversations with others. Amen.
