CHAPTER READ: James 2
SCRIPTURE SELECTED: James 2:8-10
SCRIPTURE: 8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,”[a] you are doing right. 9 But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
OBSERVATION: James says if we really keep the royal law found in Scripture which he says is: “Love your neighbor as yourself” then we are doing right! But if we are showing favoritism and treating some better than others based on what they can “do for us” then we are guilty as lawbreakers. Loving our neighbor as oneself hits at the very heart of the law of God and must be taken as seriously as any of the other laws for this royal law rules over all the rest.
APPLICATION: As I was dealing with this passage my wife answered the door with a person seeking food. My dogs were barking, my devotional was interrupted. The Lord brought it to my attention that something way more important was taking place and I needed to help my wife put together a care package. You see I almost missed Him. The King had come calling!
PRAYER: Lord, may my days be lived in such a manner that I really am keeping the royal law to love my neighbor as myself. May I really treat others as I would want to be treated. Amen
