Ready or Not Here He Comes

BY: Pastor Bob Miller

CHAPTER READ: Matthew 25

SCRIPTURE SELECTED: Matthew 25:1-5
“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.  2  Five of them were foolish and five were wise.  3  The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.  4  The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.  5  The bridegroom was a long time coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

OBSERVATION:

At the beginning of Jesus’ parable about the 10 Virgins who were awaiting the coming of the bridegroom we are told that 5 of them were wise and they
both took their lamps and enough oil with them. The 5 foolish ones did not think ahead and did not prepare in advance. They did not take extra oil, should the bridegroom tarry. We are told that the bridegroom did tarry and they all fell asleep. Whether we are wise or foolish we will be caught off guard at his return. The question is, will we be
prepared?

APPLICATION:

I need to keep accounts of my own heart and life on a daily basis. As I come to the end of the day, I must check to see if my heart is in tune with God. Are
there any accounts left unsettled? Any wrongs that need to be confessed and righted? Are my eyes still set on Him or have I put my energies elsewhere? If He were to return, would I be ready or frantically trying to clean up the mess I’ve left behind? It would be best to go to sleep each day knowing that all is well between me and my Lord!

PRAYER:

Lord, I thank You for all that You have done by your death and resurrection to provide everything I need to be forgiven, adopted, redeemed, restored, and to be at rest, knowing that my Salvation is all of Your doing. May I keep my trust completely in You! Amen
