PRUNING

SCRIPTURE SELECTED: John 15:1-2
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes  so that it will be even more fruitful.

OBSERVATION: Jesus identifies himself as the true vine and His Father as the gardener. We then are the branches attached to the vine. The Gardener out of His love for the Vine and His desire to produce as much fruit as possible Jesus over and over says that those who love Him keep His Word. In these verses cuts away the branches that do not produce fruit and He prunes every branch that is bearing fruit so that it will be even more fruitful.

APPLICATION: I think that I’m surprised when it feels like I’m being “picked” on, or just when things are getting “comfortable” someone or something comes into life to disrupt that life. I’m not to be surprised, for my Heavenly Father is “pruning” me and preparing me to bear more fruit! When I focus on my “comfort” I tend to become a “sucker” and not a producer of fruit. The gardener knows that and so He prunes me! When He does, I can rejoice!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I think that I want to tell You how to do Your job of pruning my life! But I’ve learned, that’s not my job. I simply need to abide in Jesus and rest in knowing that You are the Master in knowing how to produce fruit! Amen.
