“Protect Them In this World”

Date: August 15, 2020

BY: Pastor Bob Miller
CHAPTER READ: John 17
SCRIPTURE SELECTED: John 17:11
11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.
OBSERVATION: Jesus is praying to His Father for His disciples. In His prayer for us He prays that the Father will protect us by the power of His name, so that we may be one as He and the Father are one. He prays this because He is going to the Father and will be in the world no longer, but we will be in the world.
APPLICATION: I love that Jesus prayed for our protection while we remain in this world. But I thought He would be asking to protect me from “problems” and “Covid-19” and “bankruptcy” but He prays for our protection so that we may be one as He is One with His Father. Not only does He pray that we not “be divided” but that we become even more united and dependent upon one another in this world. You want it to happen here and now – not when we get to heaven. That is amazing!

PRAYER: Lord, That we be one with each other, wasn’t even on my radar! I’ve wanted you to protect my “stuff” and my “comfort” and my “job”…not so much my relationships with others. Lord our Church is filled with Democrats and Republicans, young and old, rich and pour. And your primary concern is our unity. Oh Lord, protect us, now! Amen
