Live Like Jesus

BY: Pastor Bob Miller
CHAPTER READ: 1 John 2

SCRIPTURE SELECTED: 1 John 2:3-6
3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God[a] is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

OBSERVATION: We look for evidence or seek assurance that we are indeed “saved”. John says that we know that we have come to know Him if we keep His commands. If we profess to know Him but we don’t care about what He wants us to do or be, then we are fooling ourselves and others and the truth is not in us. But if we obey His Word it reveals that we love Him and that love will be deepened and will grow to completeness. The bottom line is that those who know Him will live like Him.

APPLICATION: We’ve heard the saying “WWJD” (What Would Jesus Do?). For a Christian that question becomes a part of our life as we really want to live in such a manner that we are living like Jesus would live in each situation, circumstance and relationship. If this isn’t even a concern of ours then that would be a good indication that we’ve been fooling ourselves and others when we call ourselves “Christian”. I good question to ask: “Is my desire to do His will becoming more and more a priority with me?”

PRAYER: Lord, What would you have me to do today? May my life be a reflection of Yours! Continue to bring my life and my heart in line with Your will and Your way. When I blow it and go my own way, I’m grateful for your Spirit that becomes my teacher and Your cleansing and forgiveness that restores and empowers me to stay in step with You. Amen
