SCRIPTURE READ: John 16
SCRIPTURE SELECTED: John 16:7
7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

OBSERVATION: Jesus is speaking to His disciples on the night that He will arrested, just prior to His crucifixion. He says to them, “Truly I tell you it is for your good that I am going away! I’m thinking, what could be better than having Jesus with me? How could this be “good”? And Jesus says: Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you. The Advocate is a “him”! He is not impersonal but He will come to be with me.

APPLICATION: The Advocate is the Holy Spirit whom Jesus by His death, made possible to come and dwell in me. He is present to do with me what Jesus would do if He were physically present! But His presence as my “Helper” is constant and continual! He has come to be with me and with YOU and together with HIm we carry out His Work here on earth. I’ve not missed out by being born 2000 years after Jesus walked this earth for He has sent His Spirit, The Advocate to be with US and to empower US.

PRAYER: Lord, How wonderful to know that the Advocate is at Home in my life and that He makes You real and shows me how to live and keeps me walking as You would walk. Thank You for leaving me not alone!
