CHAPTER READ: Hebrews 13
SCRIPTURE SELECTED: Hebrews 13:1-3
Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. 3 Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
OBSERVATION: We are to keep on loving one another in the same manner that we “keep on” loving our brothers and sisters. We are family through thick and thin. And we can’t forget the importance of showing hospitality to strangers, treating them as if they were sent to us from God Himself. And it isn’t enough just to love one-time, but we are to continue to remember those who are in prison as if we were with them and those who are suffering as if we ourselves were suffering that same affliction.
APPLICATION: We need to guard against a “once and done” mentality where we do our good deed and we treated someone nice and so pat ourselves on the back and think: “I’m good so now I can get back to taking care of myself”. Loving one another and showing hospitality is a “life-style” that is to be practiced all day long, every day. We are to keep on loving one another! Never is it “once and done”!
PRAYER: Lord, may I have the diligence to love as You loved and may my love grow deeper and my concern for others grow stronger. May Your heart’s passion become mine to an ever greater extent! Amen
