Eternal Life is Experienced

BY: Pastor Bob Miller

CHAPTER READ: 1 John 1

SCRIPTURE SELECTED: 1 John 1:1-3
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

OBSERVATION: John is speaking to us about the Word of life, not found on the pages in a book, but rather that which they had witnessed, lived with and experienced. This life is eternal life which had come from the Father and appeared to them. This eternal life is experienced in the fellowship that comes with being in a relationship with those who are experiencing the fellowship of the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.

APPLICATION: We tend to think of eternal life as something that we possess, but it is rather quality of life which is experienced as we walk in relationship with God who is Himself eternal and with His children with whom He shares His nature. Eternal life is found in the fellowship we enjoy with one another, not in head knowledge, but in everyday life. It is experienced as we walk hand in hand with one another and with God.

PRAYER: Lord, Thank You for revealing Yourself to me through Your Word and through the body of Christ. May I take what I’ve experienced and share it with those who are walking in darkness. Amen
