Don’t Forget this One Thing

BY: Pastor Bob Miller

CHAPTER READ: 2 Peter 3

SCRIPTURE SELECTED: 2 Peter 3:8-9
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

OBSERVATION: Peter reminds us that there will be those who will question the Lord’s return and the promises of God. But he says, don’t forget this one thing, His timing is different from ours. With Him, one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise but is patient with us, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

APPLICATION: God is committed to keeping his promise and is eager to return but He is also committed to bringing everyone to repentance and not wanting anyone to perish. And so He is not slow, but patient with us as He works through us and in us to bring about the salvation of those who will perish should He return today. This truth must remain in our “thinking” as we live each day, for God has called us to join with Him in bringing about the Salvation of those who are perishing.

PRAYER: Lord, I tend to make each day more about me than more about You. I need to remember that there are eternal issues at stake and there are people who need to be rescued whom You have put into my life today. Align my heart with Your own. Amen
