Be Do-It-Alls

BY: Pastor Bob Miller

CHAPTER READ: Matthew 23

SCRIPTURE SELECTED: Matthew 23: 1-3

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:  2  “The teachers of the
law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat.  3  So you must be careful to do
everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not
practice what they preach.

OBSERVATION:

Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples that they must be
careful to do everything that the teachers of the law and the Pharisees tell you for they sit in Moses’ seat. But he went on to also to say that they are not to follow in their footsteps or do what they do…for they are “know it alls” not do at alls”.

APPLICATION:

I’m to pay attention and to take seriously the Word of God when it is
preached. More than that, I need to be a doer of the Word and not just a listener. The preachers of the Law were listeners and not doers. Don’t follow that example or strive to follow in their footsteps. Instead, let the Word direct your steps. As a minister, I need to realize that what I say matters greatly, but I also need to practice what I preach.

PRAYER:

Lord, Your Word takes priority in my life and may I be careful to be a doer of
Your Word. May my life line up with what I say. Where it is askew, change me! May my obedience match the truth You have revealed to me. Amen.
