Our Pastor & Family

“So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

Ephesians 4:11-13

Pastor Cody and Michele Rhode

Pastor Cody serves as the Senior Pastor of Kailua Church of the Nazarene, a role he began in August 2025. He first sensed God’s call to ministry in 2013 after attending a men’s retreat while worshiping at Mission Church of the Nazarene in San Diego, California. Following his retirement from the Marine Corps and his family’s transition into civilian life, that call remained present in his heart. In 2015, the call to full-time ministry was confirmed by his pastor, church, and family, and he enrolled at Nazarene Bible College to study Pastoral Ministry.

Pastor Cody is passionate about helping people grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. He especially loves small group discipleship through Sunday School, Bible study, children’s ministry, and other spaces where people are formed and transformed in their faith. He also enjoys preaching God’s Word, sharing fellowship around the table, and hearing the stories and testimonies of people seeking God and experiencing His grace.

His desire as pastor is that every person who comes to Kailua Church of the Nazarene would know they are welcomed, loved, and invited to walk with Christ. No matter where someone may be on their faith journey, Pastor Cody believes the church is called to walk alongside them with grace, truth, and love. His hope is to help others experience the reconciling, transforming work of God and to grow in a faithful relationship with Him.

Pastor Cody was ordained as an elder in the Church of the Nazarene in 2024 on the Northern Michigan District, the same year he graduated from Nazarene Bible College with a Bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Ministry. He began pastoral ministry in 2015 as an interim pastor on the Eastern Michigan District. In 2016, he was called to serve as Senior Pastor of Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene, a role he held until 2021. In January 2023, he was called to Charlevoix Church of the Nazarene and served there until July 2025, before he and his family were called to Kailua Church of the Nazarene.

Pastor Cody loves ministry because it is a joy to participate in God’s work of reconciling the world to Himself. He believes the church is called to be a healthy, growing community rooted in Christ, growing in love for God and one another, and faithfully engaged in the mission of making Christlike disciples. His vision is to help cultivate a church family that is grounded in Scripture, shaped by holiness, welcoming across generations, and committed to sharing the hope of the gospel with the surrounding community.

Pastor Cody and his wife, Michele, have been married since 2009 and have four children: Lauralee, Katelynn, Junior, and Carter. Their family enjoys sports, traveling, hiking, going to the beach, and spending time together. Outside of ministry, Pastor Cody enjoys coaching and umpiring varsity and youth sports. Family is deeply important to the Rhodes, and they are grateful for the ways the church becomes an extension of family as people worship, grow, serve, and share life together.

Whether you were born here, recently moved to the island, are visiting on vacation, or are seeking a church home, Pastor Cody and the Kailua Church of the Nazarene family would love to welcome you. If you are seeking God for the first time, returning to faith, or simply wanting to learn more, you are invited to join us as we worship, grow, and follow Jesus together.
