A Sharp Word

BY: Pastor Bob Miller

CHAPTER READ: Hebrews 4

SCRIPTURE SELECTED: Hebrews 4:12-13
12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

OBSERVATION: The Word of God does not sit dormant but is alive and active. It continues to work within our heart and soul even after we set the Bible down. It is sharper than any two edged sword… which can pierce and do it’s work of judgement in our inner most being. It convicts, and shows us ourselves. Nothing is hidden from God’s sight. He not only sees what is happening in our world, but He sees into the depths of our heart and knows why it is happening. His Word brings those things to light so that He can change and transform us.

APPLICATION: Don’t be surprised when after reading the Word, there is conviction. Since the Word is alive and active, be ready to let it speak afresh and new even when it is a passage that has been read many times. Let the Word do surgery cutting out anything that does not belong and which hinders health. Listen intently for God who sees what needs to be changed will use the Word to bring about His salvation. Let the Word become a priority for it will bring life!

PRAYER: Lord, I find within me a tendency to forgo the reading of your Word. I think, “I don’t need it” or “I’ve already know it” or “I don’t have time”. May I realize that more than ever I need to let Your Word speak into my heart each day, that I may experience your judgment and forgiveness. Amen.
